Preservation: Using the Portico audit site [Tiers 2-3]

During your JSTOR Stewardship onboarding, you'll receive access to the Portico audit site. You can use this audit account to view and verify your preserved content in Portico. In general, we recommend reviewing your preserved content annually, to confirm it appears as expected and to help inform your future planning. If you have any issues with accessing the dashboard, please contact JSTOR Stewardship Support.

Viewing the Portico dashboard

Upon logging into the Portico audit site, you'll be taken to an overview page which displays the status of your content at Portico, including how much of your content is preserved and its processing status.

You can use the Portico dashboard to view information related to the projects you've committed to Portico for preservation as part of JSTOR Stewardship. The Portico dashboard is designed to provide an easy‐to‐read and up‐to‐date snapshot of the status of your content, in addition to providing audit access to your preserved content.

This page is driven by an automated analysis and displays an approximation of your overall content status.

Tip: You can also get to the dashboard by selecting Publishers in the sidebar and then clicking the name of your institution from the list.

Content Receipt

This tab provides a list of files received in the last six months and their status. This report can be viewed in your browser or downloaded as a spreadsheet.

If no content has been received in the last six months, you won't see any files on this tab.

Ingest Rates

This tab shows a chart of your digitized collection items preserved each year.

Processing Status

This tab provides an approximately quarterly snapshot of your collection(s) status after processing by Portico’s content preparation system. The chart includes items that have been ingested into the archive and are being preserved, and items that may have processing issues being resolved.

Note: The unit of measure for this chart is submission packages, called "batches", provided to Portico from JSTOR Stewardship. A batch is a single item record, which includes the item metadata and associated media file(s).

Digitized Collections

This tab displays a list of all of your preserved collections, with links to view the contents of each collection in the Portico audit site.

File Status Report

This report lists all of the file formats ingested into the Portico archive for your content and includes the number of files preserved for each type, as well as their format validity status. This report is also downloadable as an Excel spreadsheet.

Note: What is colloquially known as a single format (such as a PDF) may have numerous, more specific, formats represented in the report.

Viewing your preserved collections

In addition to the dashboard, you can view your preserved collections directly in the audit site by selecting Digital Collections in the sidebar.

This will take you to a list of your preserved collections. You can then click the name of any collection to view the individual items preserved and their associated file information and metadata.

You can also search for content in the Portico audit site:

  • Searching Digital Collections will return collections with titles or IDs that match your search terms.
  • If you've mapped a JSTOR publishing target in your preserved project, you can search All Metadata to find specific items whose metadata matches your search terms.
Note: Because the only content you can view in the Portico audit site belongs to your own institution, searching by Publisher won't return additional results.
