You can add alternative text to images in your collections to make available to users via the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) viewer on JSTOR. See our guidelines for writing alt text for recommendations.
Tip: To ensure your images’ alt text is made available in the image viewer when publishing to JSTOR, ensure that “Images” or an image-based Resource Type (ex. “Photographs”, “Paintings”) is selected for images in your collection and mapped in your JSTOR publishing target.
Adding alt text to images
To add alt text to an image:
- In your project, double-click an item to edit it or select an item and select Edit.
- Select the Alt Text tab to view the item's alt text fields.
- For compound objects, you’ll see a separate alt text field for each media file associated with the record.
- Compose your alt text. See our guidelines for writing alt text for recommendations.
- Select Save or Save and close to save your changes to the item.
Note: At this time, adding or importing alt text for images in bulk is not supported.
